Knowledge share

The more we learn, the more we learn we don’t know. The path to knowledge is a two way street, we all learn from each other. That same path is just as important as the knowledge itself. We must all go through the learning process to have a full and complete grasp of what we have learnt.

Seminars

Over the past year I have developed seminars on the creative side of audio mixing. I have been privileged enough to travel the globe to talk to engineers from all different walks of life on the art of mixing a show.

As with any form of art, creativity comes from within. When we learn the fundamentals it is much easier to express ourselves in our work, and be creative. We don’t want to create carbon copies of our teachers or ourselves; we need to breed creativity through knowledge and understanding.

What is Creativity? What is right or wrong?

A mix is very personal and therefore subjective. There is no right or wrong from an artistic point of view.
The art of mixing any show starts at the very beginning.

Lectures

As well as delivering seminars over the past year, I have also been ask to come into various educational establishments to lecture to their students. One thing that always strikes me is the amount of focus on the technical side of the audio industry, what is the best mixing console, what is the best PA system, when in fact to an extent what is the best is irrelevant. Greatness come from the people behind the technology.

The bit’s of wire, knobs, and tiny algorithms aren’t just there for the technically minded. Once we begin to see these technical tools as objects we can we can create with, only our imaginations are our limitations.
