DJ Fresh; Sonic Fastidiousness

As some of you know, I’ve spent the last month working with DJ Fresh. It’s been great so far and looking forward to more festivals over the summer and into the autumn.

One thing that was made apparent in my first meeting with him was is fastidious nature towards his sound, and his journey to sonic perfection. As a result of this, when we do shows that are recorded for broadcast, such as last weekends Radio One One Big Weekend, the broadcast people only take a Left and Right feed straight from my console at front of house. Not only am I mixing for the room, I’m also mixing for the people at home as well…

No pressure what so ever…

  1. I’ve recently had to do a few ‘archive’ recordings of the show i’m currently touring with under the same circumstances. Just providing a L/R feed out of the desk, juggling mixing FOH with trying to keep the program feed balanced is certainly interesting. Particularly when working in a theatre which requires very different reverbs (etc) to the program mix..
